Sunshine Point Camp is located on Lake Erie in Harrow and was opened just after WWII with the mandate to provide all children of Essex County the ability to go to camp. After 30,000 kids we are still true to that mandate working with the Windsor Essex Children’s Aid Society and economically disadvantaged areas of Windsor Essex to ensure all kids are able to come to camp. For many of the underprivileged youth, we cover 100% of their cost and subsidize more than half of our campers. We need $150,000 per year to keep the camp open. We operate for 7 weeks each summer, hosting approximately 45-55 kids per week aged 7-14 for 6 days. In 2019 our goal is to increase our capacity to 66 kids per week. For the majority of the kids this is their first experience outside of the city experiencing the outdoor nature, sitting by the camp fire singing songs, swimming, archery, canoeing, kayaking, crafts and making new friends.
